Screening for Plagiarism

DISTANCES: Journal of Data Science, Technology, and Computer Science is committed to upholding academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all published articles. To prevent unethical publication practices, all submitted manuscripts undergo a strict plagiarism screening process.

Plagiarism Policy

  1. Plagiarism Check
All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using trusted software such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or equivalent. This check is conducted before the peer-review process begins.

  2. Similarity Threshold
Manuscripts showing a similarity index above 20% (excluding references, quotations, and method sections) may be returned to the author for revision or rejected outright depending on the extent and nature of the overlap.

  3. Types of Plagiarism Considered Unacceptable:

    • Copying or paraphrasing substantial portions of another work without proper citation

    • Self-plagiarism (duplicate publication of the author's own previous work without acknowledgment)

    • Fabrication or manipulation of sources

  4. During and After Review
Editors may re-check manuscripts at any stage. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the article will be subject to retraction and the authors may be blacklisted from future submissions.

Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible for the content they submit. To avoid plagiarism, authors should:

  • Properly cite all sources and ideas that are not their own

  • Use quotation marks and references for direct quotes

  • Paraphrase accurately while still giving credit to original sources

  • Use plagiarism-check tools before submission
